The artists’ home, at Heidelberg Park

The townhouse we presented here is located at the most picturesque part of Heidelberg, Heidelberg Park, where many artists painted pictures in the old days. Heidelberg is a home of many fine artists. The Heidelberg School was an Australian art movement of the late 19th century. It has latterly been described as Australian impressionism. Arthur Streeton and Walter Withers were two local artists, who painted en plein air in Heidelberg, for which Melbourne art critic Sidney Dickinson coined the term Heidelberg School in 1891. Other key Heidelberg artists include Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Frederick McCubbin, and many others.

Heidelberg is also the home of three world-class teaching hospitals Austin Hospital, Repatriation Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women, University of Melbourne, from where many world-class scholars, clinicians and biomedical scientists have been.

Today a lot of facilities are established in the Heidelberg Park, such as golf courses, sport grounds, clubs, children’s playing grounds, etc. It is within walking distance to Warringal Shopping Centre, Heidelberg shopping street, Austin hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women, Heidelberg railway Station, bus stops, schools and many more.
